IBPS Clerk Mains 2016-17 : Exam Analysis - 1st January, 2017

As the exam is over, Its time for  complete and accurate exam analysis of IBPS Clerk Mains 2016-17 : Exam Analysis - 1st January, 2017. So without wasting anymore time, lets get into it.

There are 5 Sections in IBPS Clerk Mains 2016-17 namely English, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, Computer Awareness and General Awareness. The overall level of the exam was moderate level. 


QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE : (moderate)

The level of quantitative aptitude was moderate. There was 1 moderate tabular DI. There were 15 questions from simplification, some were moderate and a little bit calculative. 5 questions from series were easy. 10 questions from miscellaneous were of moderate level. There were 5 questions from Quadratic Equations.Overall the section was of moderate level. One can easily attempt 25-28 questions.



REASONING ABILITY : (moderate)

The level of reasoning was moderate. There were 1 puzzle and 2 seating arrangement. Puzzle was based on weekdays & subjects. And one seating arrangement was linear in which 8 people were facing north and second seating arrangement was circular in which all were facing inside. Inequalities were too easy. Syllogism level was easy. There were 5 questions from Alphanumeric series, level of these question were easy-moderate. And from miscellaneous, there were 2 questions from ranking & Direction sense. and 3 from blood relation. One can easily attempt 30-33 questions. Overall the section was of moderate level. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE : (moderate)


English was moderate . The topic of RC was story based. Cloze test was also story based. There were 5 questions from para-jumble which were easy. 5 questions were asked from error detection topic, which were of easy-moderate level. And the last 5 questions were asked in the form of fillers which were also of easy-moderate level. Overall the level of english session was moderate . One can easily attempt 25-27 questions in this session.

General Awareness : (moderate-difficult)

General Awareness is moderate-difficult. This section is quite easy for those who knows banking terms. The questions were mainly asked from Banking, Static and Current affairs. One can easily attempt 27-33 questions in this session.

Computer Awareness : (moderate-difficult)

Computer Awareness is moderate-difficult. One can easily attempt 33-35 questions in this session.

Final Advice Regarding IBPS Clerk Mains 2016-17

IBPS Clerk Mains Exam 2016 will be conducted tomorrow 1st January, 2017. We are sharing some final tips today for IBPS Clerk Mains Exam that would come handy in the exam and will help you achieve better score in your Mains Exam of IBPS Clerk 2016.


Many questions might be popping in your mind, but you need to forget these questions and stay calm, have a good sleep so that you’ll be fresh tomorrow morning, yes it is important!! You need to be sharp and ready tomorrow, so give yourself proper rest.

1) Time Management

In banking exams, time management plays a crucial role. The key is to attempt all the sections in the time frame that you have pre-decided for them. Proper time management will allow you to visit all the questions at least once so that you do not completely miss out the easy questions. You can manage your time as given below:

You must have attempted IBPS Clerk Mains test series. On the basis of the tests, let us segregate the questions according to how correctly you attempt them. The types of questions that you attempt correctly most of the times, can be termed ‘easy and scoring’. The ones that you find tough to solve correctly and skip, can be called, ‘tricky’. In your exam, this is how you should allocate your time:

English – Attempt all the easy and scoring questions in 15-20 min. Meanwhile, note down the question number of those tricky questions, that you think you can later attempt correctly. If you have time left in the end then, try to solve these questions.
Quantitative Aptitude – Follow a similar in Quants and attempt the easy and scoring questions within 25 minutes.

Reasoning Ability – Solve the easy and scoring questions within 15-20 minutes. Manage the time left after that accordingly.

General Awareness – In GA section, you either know the answer or you don’t. There are no calculations that you can do to deduce your final answer (except elimination of options). Therefore, if you think you are not sure about an answer within 35 seconds of reading it then instead of making way for negative marks, move on to the next question.


Computers – Computers is a pretty easy section. Solve all the questions that you can within the first 15 minutes and then take a second look at the ones that you find tricky. Just make sure that you do not indulge in guess work, or you will lose more marks than you earn!

2) Negative marking

In IBPS Clerk Mains, there will be negative marks for wrong answers (equivalent to 1/4 of the marks allotted to that questions). There is no negative marking for un-attempted questions. So, if you are not sure about a question, it is better to leave that question rather than attempting it wrong.

3) Hit The Strong Areas First

Start your exam with the questions that you feel more confident in. Always remember that some topics are more scoring than others, in the sense that they have more weightage than other ones in the exam. Some examples of such topics are Reading Comprehension, Error detection, Close Test, Simplification, Analogy, Arrangements & Patterns, Number Series, Algebra, Geography, Science, Polity, Basic computer parts and functions, etc. Strengthening such topics will fetch you more marks and time in the exam.
