ANSWERS :

S1. Ans.(d)
Sol. Let age of Sia 6 yr ago = x yr
And his father’s age will be = 7x yr
Present age of Sia = x + 6 yr
Present age of Sia’s father = 7x + 6 yr
According to question,
(7x + 6) - (x + 6) = 36
7x + 6 - x - 6 = 36
6x = 36
x = 6yr
Sia’s age after 5 yr from now
= x + 6 + 5
= 6 + 6 + 5
= 17 yr

S2. Ans.(a)
Sol. Present ages of P and Q = R + 25
∴ P + Q = R + 25                                 …(i)
According to the question,
Q = R + 5
Putting value of Q in equation (i) we get
P + R +5 = R + 25
∴ P = 25 - 5
= 20 yr
Hence, P’s present age = 20 yr

S4. Ans.(a)
Sol. Sum of the ages of the 4 members in a family 5 yr ago was 94 yr.
Now, sum of present ages of family
Member = 94 + 5 × 4 = 114 yr
When the daughter is replaced by
Daughter in law, then the sum of family member’s ages = 92 yr
∴ Required difference in age of daughter and the daughter-in-law
= 114 - 92 = 22 yr

S8. Ans.(d)
Sol. Suppose the ages of father and son are 5x yr and 2x yr
After four years, the age of son
= (2x + 4) yr
After four years, the age of mother
= (4x + 8) yr
So, the present age of mother
= (4x + 4) yr
Ratio of the age of father and mother
= 5x : 4x + 4
Since, data is insufficient, so cannot be determined.

S13. Ans.(b)
Sol. Let the ages of Sulekha and Arunima
be 9x yr and 8x yr, respectively.
According to the question,

⇒ 81x + 45 = 80x + 50
⇒ x = 50 - 45
∴ x = 5
Required difference = 9 × 5 - 8 × 5
 = 45 - 40 = 5 yr
