     26 - 16= 10
     43 - 26= 17
     69 - 43= 26

      5 - 2 = 3
     10 - 5 = 5
     17 - 10= 7
     26 - 17= 9

4. 21, 24, 32, 45, 63, _

A. 82
B. 84
C. 85

      8 - 3 = 5
     13 - 8 = 5
     18 - 13= 5
     18 + 5 = 23

Thus, 63 + 23 = 86.

5. 7, 10, 16, 28, _, 100

E. None of these

Sol. 10 - 7 = 3
     16 - 10= 6
     28 - 16= 12
     52 - 28= 24
    100 - 52= 48.

6. The ratio of A’s age 3 years ago and B’s age 5 years ago is 4:5. If A is 4 years younger than B then what is the present age of B ?

A. 11
B. 12
C. 15
D. 10
E. None of these

Sol. Lets assume B's age be 'x' years
Then, A's age will be = (x-4) yrs

According to the question,

(x-4)/x = 4/5

Solving, we get,

x = 15 years.

8. A boat goes 16.2 km up stream in 36 min and goes downstream in 27 min. Find speed of boat in still water ?

A. 32km/hr
B. 31km/hr
C. 31.5km/hr
D. 30km/hr
E. None of these

Sol. Lets assume the speed of the boat in still water is 'x' km/hr.
Also assume speed of current to be 'y' km/hr.

According to the question,

x - y = 16.2*60/36
x - y = 27

Also given,

x + y = 16.2*60/27
x + y = 36

Adding these two equation, we get,

2x = 63
x = 31.5km/hr.

9. A vendor sold two articles namely X and Y. He sold article ‘X’ at a loss of 20% and article ‘Y’ at a profit of 25% but finally there is no loss or no gain. If the total selling price of both articles is Rs.900. Find the difference between the cost price of article ‘X’ and ‘Y’ ?

A. 160
B. 150
C. 175
D. 185
E. None of these

Sol. 20% of X = 25% of Y ; X + Y = 900
X/Y = 5/4
Difference = Rs 100.

10. A bag contains 5 red balls, 4 blue balls, 3 yellow balls and 2 green balls. If three balls are picked at random, what is the probability that two are red and one is green ?

A. 22/55
B. 15/81
C. 10/91
D. 5/91
E. None of these

Sol. Total balls = 14
Probability = 5c2 * 2c1/ 14c3 = 5/91.

11. Two pipes A and B can fill a tank in 16 hrs and 12 hrs respectively. The capacity of the tank is 240 litres. Both the pipes are opened simultaneously and closed after 2 hrs. How much more water (In Liters) needed to fill the tank ?

A. 100
B. 170
C. 70
D. 190
E. None of these

Sol. Time taken to fill 240 litres when both pipes are open,

= 1/16 + 1/12
= 7/48

Thus, it takes 48/7 hrs to fill 240 litres.

In 2 hrs they will fill,

= 240*2*(7/48)
= 170 litres.

12. The simple interest on a certain sum at 15% per annum for 5 year is Rs1500 more to the simple interest on the same at 12% per annum for the same period. Find the sum-

A. Rs 12000
B. Rs 12500
C. Rs 8000
D. Rs 10000
E. None of these

Sol. Lets assume the sum to be 'P'.

P*15*5/100 = P*12*5/100 + 1500

Solving this for P, we get,

P = Rs 10,000.

13. The total of the ages of a class of 60 girls is 900 years. The average age of 20 girls is 12 years and that of the other 20 girls is 16 years. What is the average age of the remaining girls ?

A. 14 years
B. 15 years
C. 16 years
D. 17 years
E. None of these

Sol. Let assume the average of remaining 20 girls to be 'x'.

According to the question,

Sum of 60 girls = 900

Sum of 1st 20 girls = 16*20

Sum of other 20 girls = 12*20

Sum of remaining 20 girls = 20x

Now, 16*20 + 12*20 + 20x = 900

Solving for x, we get,

x = 17 years.

14. The numerator of a fraction is decreased by 25% and the denominator is increased by 250%. If the resultant fraction is 65, what is the original fraction ?

A. 22/5
B. 24/5
C. 27/6
D. 28/5
E. 30/11

Sol. Lets assume the numerator to be'x'.
Thus, decreased numerator will be = 0.75x

Also, assume the denominator to be 'y'.
Thus, the increased denominator will be = 3.5y

Accordng to the question,

0.75x/3.5y = 6/5

Solving, we get,

x/y = 28/5.

15. In an election 10% of the voters on the voters’ list did not cast votes and 60 voters cast their ballot papers blank. There were only two candidates. The winner was supported by 50% of all voters in the list and he got 420 votes more than his rival. The number of voters on the list was:

A. 3600
B. 6200
C. 4575
D. 6028
E. None of these

Sol. Let total number of voters= x
People who voted for the winner are = 0.5x
People who voted for the loser are = 0.5x-420
People who cast blanks are = 60
and people who did not vote are = 0.1x
solve the following equation
0.5x+0.5x-420+60+0.1x=x => x=3600.
