6. If a company sells a car with a marked price of Rs. 2,72,000 and gives a discount of 4% on Rs. 2,00,000 and 2.5% on the remaining amount of Rs. 72,000, then the actual price charged by the company for the car is:

B. Rs. 2,55,000
C. Rs. 2,60,100
D. Rs. 2,62,200
E. None of these
Sol. M.P. = Rs. 272000.
Discount = Rs. [(4% of 200000) + (2.5% of 72000)] = Rs. (8000 + 1800) = Rs. 9800.
Actual price = Rs. (272000 – 9800) = Rs. 262200.
7. The sum of the ages of 5 children born at the intervals of 3 years each is 50 years. What is the age of the youngest child?
A. 4 years
B. 8 years
C. 10 years
D. 6 years
E. None of these
Sol. Let the ages of the children be x, (x + 3), (x + 6), (x + 9) and (x + 12) years.
Then, x + (x + 3) + (x + 6) + (x + 9) + (x + 12) = 50
5x = 20
x = 4.
Age of the youngest child = x = 4 years.
8. An amount of Rs. 2430 is divided among A, B and C such that if their shares be reduced by Rs. 5, Rs. 10 and Rs. 15 respectively, the remainders shall be in the ratio of 3 : 4 : 5. Then, B’s share was:
A. Rs. 605
B. Rs. 790
C. Rs. 800
D. Rs. 810
E. None of these
Sol. Remainder = Rs [2430 - (5+10+15)] = Rs 2400.
B's share = Rs[(2400*4/12) + 10] = Rs 810.
9. If inflation increases at a rate of 8% p.a., what will a Rs. 20 article cost at the end of two years?

C. Between Rs. 22 and Rs. 23
D. Between Rs. 23 and Rs. 24

= Rs(20*27*27)/(25*25) = Rs 23.33
10. A man travels 600 km by train at 80 km/hr, 800 km by ship at 40 km/hr, 500 km by aeroplane at 400 km/hr and 100 km by car at 50 km/hr. What is the average speed for the entire distance?
A. 60 km/hr
B. 605/123 km/hr
C. 62 km/hr
D. 655/123 km/hr
E. None of these
Sol. Total distance travelled = (600+800+500+100) = 2000 km.
Total time taken = (600/80 + 800/40 + 500/400 + 100/50) = 123/4 hrs.
Average speed = (2000*4/123) = 8000/123 km/hr.
