IBPS Clerk Mains 2016-17 (Important Questions-11)

1. The annual income of A is 10% less than that of B whose income is 20% more than that of C. If the monthly income of C is Rs. 200, find the total annual income of A, B and C together.

A. Rs. 7,046
B. Rs. 7,772
C. Rs. 6,872
D. Rs. 7,872
E. None of these

Sol. Monthly income of C = Rs 200
Income of B = 1.2 * 200 = Rs 240
Income of A = 0.9 * 240 = Rs 216
A + B + C = 656.
Annual income = 12 * 656 = 7872.

2. A sum of money is to be divided among A, B and C in the ratio 2:3:7. If the total share of A and B together is Rs. 1,500 less than C, what is A’s share in it?

A. Rs. 1,000
B. Rs. 1,500
C. Rs. 2,000
D. Data insufficient
E. None of these

Sol. Since ratio term is proportional to corresponding value. So,
C - (A+B) = 1500
7X - (2X+3X) = 1500
X = 750

A's Share = Rs 750.

3. Rs. 180 is to be divided among 66 men and women. The sums of men’s share and women’s share are in the ratio 5 : 4, but their individual shares are 3 : 2 respectively. The number of men are,

A. 26
B. 30
C. 40
D. 5
E. 10

Sol. Let the no. of men = x,
Sum of the men's share = 3x
No. of women = 66-x
Sum of women's share = 2(66-x)
3x/2(66-x) = 5/4
x = 30.

4. A shopkeeper purchased an electric heater marked at Rs. 200 at successive discounts of 10% and 15% respectively. He spent Rs. 7 on packaging and sold the electric heater for Rs. 200. Find his gain percent.

A. No loss or gain
B. 25
C. 30
D. 40
E. 50

Sol. Two successive discounts of 10% and 15% is equivalent to single discount of,
= 10 + 15 - (10*15)/100
= 23.5%

Expenditure of shopkeeper = 200 - (23.5% 0f 200) + 7
= 200 - 47 + 7 = 60

5. The cost price of 20 pencils is equal to the selling price of 25 pencils. The loss percent in the transaction is:

A. 5
B. 20
C. 25
D. 30
E. 40

Sol. Assume an amount A = LCM of 20,25 = Rs 100
No. of pencils bought = 100/20 = 5
No. of pencils sold = 100/25 = 4
Loss percent = [(5-4)/5]*100 = 20%.
