Dear Aspirants,

We have introduced  "the 17 days study plan to crack IPPB Scale-1 Prelims 2017". This plan is specifically dedicated to Quantitative Aptitude and cover all types of questions asked in Bank PO exams. This will help you to prepare in a more efficient and systematic way. So, follow this post to keep updated with the plan.

1. 14 men can do a work in 18 days ,15 women can do a work in 24 days. If 14 men work for first three days and 10 women work after that for three days find the part of work left after that ?

A. 3/4
B. 1/4
C. 1/2
D. 1/6
E. 1/5

Sol. Sol. Workdone in 1st 3 days,
= 3×(1/18) = 1/6.

Workdone in next 3 days,
= (2/3)×3×(1/24) = 1/12.

Remaining Work,
= [1 - (1/6 + 1/12)] = 3/4.

2. A can do a piece of work in 8 days which B can destroy in 3 days. A has worked for 6 days, during the last 2 days of which B has been destroying. How many days must A now work alone to complete the work ?

A. 7 days
B. 22/3 days
C. 23/3 days
D. 8 days
E. None of these

Sol. Sol. In 6 days part of the work done by,
A = 6/8 = 3/4
during 2 days, part of the work destroyed,
by B = 2/3
work done = 3/4 - 2/3 = 1/12.
Required no. of days = (11/12) × 8 = 22/3 days.

3. A contractor undertook to complete a project in 90 days and employed 60 men on it. After 60 days, he found that 3/4th of the work has already been completed. How many men can he discharge so that the project may be completed exactly on time ?

A. 40
B. 20
C. 30
D. 15
E. None of these

Sol. Sol. Let Required men = X
60 × 60/(3/4) = (60-X)×30/(1/4)
Solving, we get, X = 20.

4. A, B and C can complete a piece of work in 10, 12 and 15 days respectively. A left the work 5 days before the work was completed and B left 2 days after A had left. Number of days required to complete the whole work was ?

A. 26/3
B. 6
C. 20/3
D. 7
E. None of these

Sol. Sol. Let required no. of days = X
(X-5)/10 + (X-3)/12 + X/15 = 1
Solving, we get, X = 7 days.

5. 4 men and 3 women finish a job in 6 days, and 5 men and 7 women can do the same job in 4 days. How long will 1 man and 1 woman take to do the work ?

A. 156/7
B. 51/2
C. 36/7
D. 265/22
E. None of these

Sol. Sol. Let men’s 1 day work = X
Let women’s 1 day work = Y
4X + 3Y = 1/6
5X + 7Y = 1/4
Solving, X = 5/156 ; Y = 1/78
Required Days = 1/[(1/78) + (5/156)] = 156/7 days.

6. Work done by A in one day is four times the work done by B in one day, while the work done by B in one day is one-third of the work done by C in one day. C alone can complete the work in 16 days. In how many days can all the three together complete the work ?

A. 12
B. 10
C. 8
D. 6
E. None of these

Sol. Sol. C = 16 days
B = 3×16= 48 days
A = 48/4 = 12 days
All of them = 1/[(1/16)+(1/48)+(1/12)] = 6 days.

7. P and Q were assigned to do a work for an amount of 1200. P alone can do it in 15 days while Q can do it in 12 days. With the help of R they finish the work in 6 days. Find the share if C.

A. 100
B. 120
C. 140
D. 160
E. None of these

Sol. 1/15 + 1/12 + 1/c = 1/6, we got C = 60 (it means C will take 60 days to complete the work alone)
so ratio of work done by P:Q:R = 4:5:1
so c share = (1/10)×1200 = 120.

8. P does half as much work as Q in three-fourth of the time. If together they take 24 days to complete the work, how much time shall P take to complete the work?

A. 50 days
B. 60 days
C. 70 days
D. 80 days
E. None of these

Sol. Sol. Let Q take x days to complete the work, so P will take 2×(3/4) of X day to complete the work i.e. 3x/2 days
1/x + 2/3x = 1/24, we get x = 40 days, so P will take = 3/2 of 40 = 60 days.

9. P and Q together can complete a job in 90days, Q and R takes 60 days to complete the same work and P and R will take 45 days to complete the same work. How much time will P, Q and R will take to complete the work together.

A. 40 days
B. 42 days
C. 36 days
D. 44 days
E. None of these

Sol. Sol. ( 1/90 + 1/60 + 1/45)×(1/2) = (1/P +1/Q + 1/R) = 1/40
so 40 days.

10. 20 men can complete a piece of work in 15days and 12 women can complete the same piece of work in 24 days. What is the ratio of amount of work done by 30 men in oneday to the amount of work done by 16 women in 1 day ?

A.6:7
B.9:5
C.7:5
D.2:7
E.None of these

Sol. Sol. M : W = 30/20×15 : 16/12×24
= 1/10 : 1/ 18 = 1/5:1/9
Ratio = 9:5.

11. X alone can do a piece of work in 5 days. Y can do the same piece of work in 4 days. X and Y are assigned to do the work for Rs.5000.They complete the work in 2 days with the help of Z. How much is to be paid to Z ?

A.Rs.750
B.Rs.620
C.Rs.700
D.Rs.500
E.None of these

Sol. Sol. Z’s one day work = ½ – [ 1/5+1/4] = (10-4+5)/20 = 1/20
Ratio = 1/5:1/4:1/20 = 4/20 : 5/20 : 1/20 = 4:5:1
Z = 5000×1/10 = 500.

12. 9 men and 12 women can complete the job in 12 days.In how many days can 3 men and 4 women finish the same job working together ?

A.36days
B.42days
C.30days
D.28days
E.None of these

Sol. 9m+12w = 1/12
3(3m+4w) = 1/12
3m+4w = 1/36
Thus, 36 days.

13. If  X, Y and Z can complete a work in 6 days. If X can work twice faster than Y and thrice faster than Z, then the no of days Z alone can complete the work is

A.22 days
B.11 days
C.33days
D.30days
E.None of these

Sol. 1/x+1/2x+1/3x = 1/6
6+3+2/6x = 6
11/6x = 6
X = 11
Z = 3x = 33.

14. If 20 men can do a piece of work in 42days working 8 hours per day then how many men are required to complete the work, working 5 hours per day in 33 days ?

A.39
B.47
C.32
D.41
E.None of these

Sol. Sol. M = 20×42×8/5×33 = 40.72 ≈ 41.

15. Three men, four women and six children can complete a work in 7 days. A woman does double the work a man does and a child does half the work a man does. How many women alone can complete this work in 7 days ?

A.7
B.6
C.8
D.10
E.None of these

Sol. 2 men = 1 woman
1 man =1/2 woman
3 men =3/2 women
2 children = 1 man =1/2 woman
1 child =1/4 woman
6 children =6/4 =3/2 women
Now, three men, four women and six children
=3/2 + 4 +3/2 =3+8+3/2 = 14/2 =  7 women.
