A. 1300
B. 1500
C. 2500
D. 2700
E. 2100
Sol. B)1500
10% of x = 6% of y
And x + y = 40000
Solving, x = 1500 ; y = 2500
2. Out of his total income, Mr. Kapoor spends 20% on house rent and 70% of the rest on house hold expenses. If he saves Rs 1,800 what is his total income (in rupees)?
A. 7800
B. 7000
C. 8000
D. 7500
E. None of these
Sol. Saving % = 100 – (20 + 56) = 24%
24% = 1800
100% = (1800/24) × 100 = 7500.
3. According to a new plan rolled out by HISP Bank, the rate of simple interest on a sum of money is 8% p.a. for the first two years, 10% p.a. for the next three years and 6% p.a. for the period beyond the first five years. Simple interest accrued on a sum for a period of eight years is Rs. 12,800. Find the sum ?
A. 24000
B. 16000
C. 15000
D. 13500
E. None of these
Sol. Let the sum be ‘X’ Rs.
(X×8×2 + X×10×3 + X×6×3)/100 = 12800
64X/100 = 12800
Sum = 12800×(100/64) = 20000 Rs.
4. A man deposited 14% of the initial amount to his locker. And again after some time he deposited 45% of the increased amount. Now the amount becomes Rs 16530. How much was the initial amount ?
A. 10500
B. 10000
C. 9500
D. 9000
E. None of these
Sol. Let initial amount = 100
Now, total amount = 100 + 14 + (45/100)×114
= 165.3
165.3→16530
1→16530/165.3
100→100×100 = 10,000 Rs.
5. The population of a town is 32000. It increase by 15% during the first year. During the second year, it decrease by 20% and increased by 5% during the third year. What is the population after 3 years ?
A. 38600
B. 39800
C. 36800
D. 38900
E. None of these
Sol. Let total population = 100
After first year = 100 + 15 = 115
After second year = 115 – 23 = 92
After third year = 92 + 4.6 = 96.6
100→32000
96.6→(32000/100)×96.6
320×96.6 = 30912 Rs.
6. In an examination the percentage of students qualified to the number of students appeared from school ‘A’ is 60%. In school ‘B’ the number of students appeared is 30% more than the students appeared from school ‘A’ and the number of students qualified from school ‘B’ is 60% more than the students qualified from school ‘A’. What is the percentage of students qualified to the number of students appeared from school ‘B’ ?
A. 70%
B. 75%
C. (960/13)%
D. (934/13)%
E. None of these
Sol. Let students appeared from school A = 100
Qualified students from school A = 60
Now, student appeared from school B = 130
And Qualified student from school B = 60 + 36 = 96
Required % = (96/130)×100 = 960/13.
7. Parameshwaran invested an amount of Rs 12000 at the simple interest rate of 10 per cent annum and another amount at the simple interest rate of 20 per cent per annum. The total interest earned at the end of one year on the total amount invested became 14 per cent per annum. Find the total amount invested ?
A. 22000
B. 25000
C. 20000
D. 24000
E. None of these
Sol. Let amount invested at 20% per annum = Rs X.
Ratio of amount = 3 : 2
Total amount invested = (12000/3)×5 = Rs 20,000.
8. On a certain sum of money, simple interest obtained is Rs 200 after 2 years at 10% per annum. What will be the compound interest obtained at the same rate and for the same time ?
A. Rs 220
B. Rs 210
C. Rs 230
D. Rs 200
E. None of these
Sol. Sol. Lets assume the sum invested to be 'P'.
According to the question,
200 = (P×10×2)/100
P = Rs 1000.
C.I. = 1000[{1 + (10/100)}² - 1] = Rs 210.
9. Deepak borrows Rs.5000 at simple Interest from a lender. At the end of 3 years, she again borrows Rs.2000 and settled that amount after paying Rs.5000 as interest after 8 years from the time she made the first borrowing. What is the rate of interest ?
A. 8%
B. 9%
C. 7%
D. 10%
E. None of these
Sol. SI for Rs.5000 for 8 years= (5000×r×8)/100
Again borrowed=2000
SI = (2000×r×5)/100
Total interest= [(5000×r×8)/100] + [(2000×r×5)/100] = 5000
400r + 100r = 5000
r = 10%.
10. At what rate of simple interest will Rs 52,00 amount to Rs 8216 in a span of 8 years ?
A. 8%
B. 7.25%
C. 7.5%
D. 7%
E. None of these
Sol. Sol. Simple interest = 8216 - 5200 = 3016
3016 = 5200×r×8/100
Solving, r = 7.25%.
11. The ratio of the number of boys and girls in a school is 2:3. If 30% of the boys and 40% of the girls are scholarship holders, the percentage of the students who are not scholarship holders is ?
A. 64%
B. 58%
C. 46%
D. 74%
E. None of these
Sol. Sol. Consider Total no of students = 100
Ratio is 2:3 i.e Boys=40 and Girls=60
30% of boys who get scholarship = 40×30/100=12%
40% of girls who get scholarship = 60×40/100 =24%
Therefore % of students who do not get scholarship =100-(12+24) = 64%.
12. Prachi lends Rs 40,000 of two of her friends. She gives Rs 20,000 to the first at 5% p.a. simple interest. She wants to make a profit of 10% on the whole. The simple interest rate at which she should lend the remaining sum of money to the second friend is ?
A. 16%
B. 15%
C. 14%
D. 13%
E. None of these
Sol. Sol. S.I. on Rs 20000
=(20000×5×1)/100 = Rs. 1000
Profit to made on Rs 40000
= 40000×10/100=Rs 4000
S.I.on Rs.20000 = 4000-1000 = Rs.3000
Rate=(S.I.× 100)/(P × T)=(3000×100)/20000
=15% per annum.
13. The simple interest on a certain sum at 15% per annum for 5 year is Rs1500 more to the simple interest on the same at 12% per annum for the same period. Find the sum-
A. Rs 12000
B. Rs 12500
C. Rs 8000
D. Rs 10000
E. None of these
Sol. Sol. Lets assume the sum to be 'P'.
P×15×5/100 = P×12×5/100 + 1500
Solving this for P, we get,
P = Rs 10,000.
14. In an election 10% of the voters on the voters’ list did not cast votes and 60 voters cast their ballot papers blank. There were only two candidates. The winner was supported by 50% of all voters in the list and he got 420 votes more than his rival. The number of voters on the list was:
A. 3600
B. 6200
C. 4575
D. 6028
E. None of these
Sol. Sol. Let total number of voters= x
People who voted for the winner are = 0.5x
People who voted for the loser are = 0.5x-420
People who cast blanks are = 60
and people who did not vote are = 0.1x
solve the following equation
0.5x+0.5x-420+60+0.1x=x => x=3600.
15. A sum of Rs.3,50,500 is to be paid back in 2 equal annual instalments. How much is each instalment, if the rate of interest charged 4% per annum compound annually ?
A.Rs.1,90,450
B.Rs.1,65,876
C.Rs.1,76,545
D.Rs.1,85,834
E.None of these
Sol. Total value of all the 3 instalments
[X×100/104] + [X×100×100/104] = 3,50,500
X*25/26 + X×625/676 = 3,50,500
X×25/26[1+25/26] = 3,50,500
X×25/26[51/26] = 3,50,500
X = 35500×676/25×51 = 185833.72 ≈ 185834.
