Dear Aspirants,

We have introduced  "the 17 days study plan to crack IPPB Scale-1 Prelims 2017". This plan is specifically dedicated to Quantitative Aptitude and cover all types of questions asked in Bank PO exams. This will help you to prepare in a more efficient and systematic way. So, follow this post to keep updated with the plan.

1. A is 2 years older than B while B is 3 year younger than C. The ratio of age of A 6 years hence and B 2 years ago is 5:3. What was age of C 6 years ago?

A. 12
B. 19
C. 15
D. 14
E. 21

Sol. Lets assume A, B, C are x+2, x+3, x respectively.
Then, (x+2+6)/(x-2) = 5/3
Solving, x = 17
Age of C, 6 years ago = 17 + 3 - 6 = 14 years.

2.  The average age of some males and 15 females is 18 years. The sum of the ages of 15 females is 240 yrs and average age of males is 20 yrs. Find the number of males ?

A. 10
B. 12
C. 15
D. 18
E. 20

Sol. Lets assume no. of males to be 'x'.

Thus, sum of ages of males/x = 20
      sum of ages of males = 20x

Therefore, (240 + 20x)/(15 + x) = 18
Solving, we get,
x = 15yrs.

3. The sum of ages of family members (both children and parents) is 360 years.The total ages of children and parents are in the ratio 2:1 and the ages of wife and husband are in the ratio 5:7.What will be the age of husband?

A.65
B.75
C.72
D.70
E.None of these

Sol. Sum of ages is 360 years.The ratio of children and parents ages is 2:1.
Total age of parents = 360 x 1 / 3 = 120 years
Ratio of wife and husband age is 5:7. Therefore, the age of husband = 120 x 7 / 12 = 70
Hence the age of husband is 70 years.

4. The sum of the ages of P and Q is 25 yrs more than the age of R.The present age of Q is 5 yrs more than the age of R. Find the present age of P ?

A. 15
B. 20
C. 12
D. 10
E. 16

Sol. Given, P + Q = 25 + R
Also, given, Q = 5 + R
Putting the value of Q in the 1st eqn, we get,
P + 5 + R = 25 + R
P = 20 yrs.

5. If 6 years are subtracted from the present age of Anuj and the remainder is divided by 18, then the present age of his grandson Gopal is obtained.If Gopal is 2 years younger to Mohan whose age is 5 years, then what is the age of Anuj?

A.44
B.60
C.80
D.92
E.None of these

Sol. Let Anuj’s age be X
Gopal is 2 years younger than Mohan, so Gopal is 3 years (i.e 5 – 2 = 3)
If Arun had born 6 years before, his age would had been X – 6. As per the question, X – 6 should be 18 times as that of Gokul’s age.
i.e. (X – 6) /18= 3
X-6 =3 x 18
x = 60.

6. 3 years ago, the average age of a family of 5 members was 17 years. With the birth of a new baby, the average age of six members remains the same even today. Find the age of the new baby.

A. 1 year
B. 2 year
C. 3/2 year
D. 4 year
E. None of these

Sol. Sum of present age of the six members = (17 × 6) = 102 years.
     Average of the present age of the 5 members (excluding baby) = 17 + 3 = 20 years.
     Sum of present ages of the 5 members = 5 × 20 = 100 years.
     Age of the baby = 102 – 100 = 2 years.

7. At present  Priya is twice Sariga’s age. 8 yrs hence the respective ratio between Priya and Sariga’s age will be 22 :13, What is Sariga’s present age ?

A)26
B)36
C)18
D)20
E)None of these

Sol. P = 2S
2s+8/s+8 = 22/13
26s+104 = 22s+176
4s = 72
S= 18yr.

8. In a family, father’s age is twice that of son's age. Father is 10 years older than mother. Daughter is 20 years younger than his mother and 5 years younger than his brother. What is the age of the father?

A. 52 years
B. 50 years
C. 58 years
D. 55 years
E. None of these

Sol. Le the age of father be 'x'
Then age of son will be = x/2
Age of mother will be = (x-10)
Age of daughter will be = (x-10-20) = (x-30)
Also given,
x/2 - 5 = x - 30
x = 50 yrs.

9. The sum of the ages of 5 children born at the intervals of 3 years each is 50 years.
What is the age of the elder child among 5 childern?

A)21
B)15
C)16
D)18
E)None of these

Sol. x+x+3+x+6+x+9+x+12 = 50
5x+30 =50
x = 50-30/5 = 20/5 =4
4+12 = 16.

10. The age of the father is 30 years more than the son’s age. Ten years hence, the father’s age will become three times the son’s age that time. What is the son’s present age in years?

A. Eight
B. Seven
C. Five
D. Cannot be determined
E. None of these

Sol. Let the son's present age be x yrs.
Then the father's present age is (x+30) yrs.
Father's age after 10 yrs = (x+40) yrs
Son's age after 10 yrs = (x+10) yrs
According to the question:
(x+40)=3(x+10)

x = 5 yrs.
