E. None of these

Sol. 9 + 6*(2^1) = 21
    21 + 6*(2^2) = 45
    45 + 6*(2^3) = 93
    93 + 6*(2^4) = 189
   189 + 6*(2^5) = 381

E. None of these

Sol. 8 + 4 = 12
    12 + 8 = 20
    20 + 16= 36
    36 + 32= 68
    68 + 64= 132

10. 8, 4, 4, 6, 12, _

A. 30
B. 32
C. 36
D. 25
E. None of these

Sol. 8*0.5 = 4
     4*1.0 = 4
     4*1.5 = 6
     6*2.0 = 12
    12*2.5 = 30

11. The ratio of X’s 3 years hence and Y’s age 3 years ago is 4 : 3. After 7 years from now X’s age will be 10 less than twice Y’s present age. Find the difference between the ages of both ?

A. 3
B. 4
C. 5
D. 2
E. None of these

Sol. (X+3)/(Y-3) = 4/3
so, 3X – 4Y = -21
Also (X+7) = 2Y – 10, so X – 2Y = -17
Solve, both equations, X = 13, Y = 15

12. X and Y invested in a business as Rs 7200 and Rs 10,800 respectively. After 4 months Z joined them by investing Rs 9000 and at the same time X added Rs 900 and Y withdrew Rs 900. If the total profit at the end of a year is Rs 64,000, then find the share of Y ?

A. 27,200
B. 28,500
C. 28,600
D. 26,900
E. None of these

Sol. X : Y : Z
7200*4 + 8100*8 : 10800*4 + 9900*8 : 9000*8
72*4 + 81*8 : 108*4 + 99*8 : 90*8
72 + 81*2 : 108 + 99*2 : 90*2
8 + 9*2 : 12 + 11*2 : 10*2
26 : 34 : 20
13 : 17 : 10
Y = 17/40 * 64000

13. A sum of Rs 4600 is invested in two different schemes. Scheme A offers 8% rate of interest per annum for 3 years and scheme B offers 10% rate of interest compounded annually for 2 years. If after investing the amount in both schemes, the difference in interests received is Rs 24, find the amount invested in scheme B ?

A. 2100
B. 2400
C. 2500
D. 2600
E. None of these

Sol. (4600-x)*8*3/100 – [x (1 + 10/100)^2 – x] = 24
Solve, x = 2400.

14. A at 20 km/hr starts from point P towards another point Q. After 2 hours of A started, D starts from point Q towards point P. In between they met at half the distance between points P and Q. If A covered one-fourth of total distance in 2 hours, what is the speed of D ?

A. 48
B. 60
C. 48
D. 35
E. 52

Sol. A covered one-fourth of total distance in 2 hours, so 1/2 distance in 4 hours
Now D has covered that same distance that A covered in (4-2) = 2 hours [D started after 2 hrs]
And since distances are same
So distance by A = distance covered by D gives
20*4 = x*2
Solve, x = 40km/hr

15. While listing the ages of people in a group, the age of one of the member which was 24 years was mistakenly written as 34 years. Due to this the average of the ages increased by two-third years. What is the number of people in the group ?

A. 21
B. 15
C. 18
D. 24
E. 12

Sol. Increase in age lead to increase in average by 2/3
So (34-24) = 2x/3

x = 15.
