As some shifts have already completed of IBPS Clerk Prelims 2016-17.  We now have a better understanding of the questions asked in IBPS Clerk Prelims exam

So, for our students we have prepared a set of questions containing some of the asked questions in  IBPS Clerk Prelims 2016-17 and some based on their types.
Solving this will get you a better understanding of the questions asked in IBPS Clerk Prelims, if you still have not given your IBPS Clerk Prelims paper.

These sets will be posted daily for all those students who have yet to give their IBPS Clerk Prelims exam, and get them ready to face the exam with confidence.

1. X’s present age is 1/3 of Y’s and Y’s present age is 9/13 of Z’s present age. The sum of their present ages is 125 years. What is the sum of ages of Y and X ?

A. 45
B. 40
C. 50
D. 60
E. None of these

Sol. Y = 9Z/13 and X = 1/3(9Z/13) = 3Z/13
So 3Z/13 + 9Z/13 + Z = 125
Solve, Z = 65,
so X = 3*65/13 = 15
Y is then 9*65/13 = 45
So X+Y = 15+45 = 60

2. Two varieties of wheat at Rs 42 per kg and Rs 50 per kg respectively are mixed in the ratio 5 : 3. The mixture is then sold at Rs 36 per kg. What is the loss % ?

A. 33%
B. 25%
C. 20%
D. 16%
E. None of these

Sol. Let CP of mixture is x
By method of allegation:
A……………….B
42………………50
. …………x
(50-x) (x-42)
Then, (50-x)/(x-42) = 5/3
Solve, x = 45 = CP
SP = 36
So loss% = [(45-36)/45] * 100

3. X can complete 4/5th of a piece of work in 12 days and Y can complete 1/3rd of the same work in 9 days. If both X and Y work together, they can do 7/15th of that work in how many days ?

A. 4.5
B. 5
C. 9
D. 8
E. None of these

Sol. X can do 4/5th of the work in 12 days, so whole work in 5/4 * 12 = 15 days.
Y can do 1/3th of the work in 9 days, so whole work in 3/1 * 9 = 27 days.
X and Y together can complete whole work in 15*27/(15+27) = 15*9/14 days.
So 7/15th work in 7/15 * (15*9/14) = 9/2 days.

4. Rs 310 are to be divided among X, Y and Z in the ratio 1/2 : 1/3 : 1/5, but by mistake it was divided in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 5 among them respectively. How much did X lost in this transaction ?

A. 85
B. 75
C. 20
D. 62
E. 88

Sol. Ratio in which divided = 2 : 3 : 5
Actual ratio = 1/2 : 1/3 : 1/5 or 15 : 10 : 6
Both ratios show that X and Y have lost and Z has gained the most.
X got = 2/(2+3+5) * 310 = 62
Actually X would have got = 15/(15+10+6) * 310 = 150
So X lost 150 – 62 = 88.

5. The train goes from station X to Y and back to station X in 32 hours where total distance covered by train is 1800 km. The train halted for two hours after reaching station Y. If the average speed of train from X to Y is 20% more than that from B to A, what is the speed of train from X to Y station ?

A. 72 km/hr
B. 75 km/hr
C. 66 km/hr
D. 60 km/hr
E. None of these

Sol. Total distance is 1800
So 900 from X to Y and then 900 from Y to X
Let speed in return journey is a, then in X to Y is (120/100)*a = 6a/5
So 900/a + 900/(6a/5) = 30
Solve, a = 55
So from X to Y is 6*55/5 = 66 km/hr.

Directions (6-10) : What should come in place of question mark (?) in the following questions ?

6. 3251+ 587 + 369 – ? = 3007

A. 1250
B. 1300
C. 1375
D. 1400
E. None of these

Sol. ? = 4207 – 3007 = 1200.

7. (9261)^1/3 × (62742241)^1/2 = ? +89

A. 166254
B. 166259
C. 166253
D. 166252
E. None of these

Sol. ? = 21 × 7921 – 89 = 166252.

A. 35.7
B. 21.6
C. 24.8
D. 27.6
E. None of these

Sol. ? = 55.8 + 7.2 – 38.2 = 24.8

9. 5.35 + 4.43 + 0.45 + 45.34 + 534 = ?

A. 597.27
B. 589.57
C. 596.87
D. 596.67
E. None of these

Sol.? = 589.57

10. 0.5% of 674 of 0.8% of 225 = ?

A. 7.066
B. 9.12
C. 6.066
D. 5.17
E. None of these

Sol. ? = (0.5/100)×674×(0.8/100)×225 = 6.066

Directions (11-15):What will come in the place of the question mark (_) in the following number series ?

11. 3, 5, 10, 20, _, 63

E. None of these

Sol. 5 - 3 = 2
    10 - 5 = 5
    20 - 10= 10
    37 - 20= 17
    63 - 37= 26

     5 - 2 = 3
    10 - 5 = 5
    17 - 10= 7
    26 - 17= 9

A. 1160
B. 1162
C. 1165
D. 1169
E. None of these

Sol. 7*1 + 1 = 8
     8*2 + 2 = 18
    18*3 + 3 = 57
    57*4 + 4 = 232
   232*5 + 5 = 1165

A. 106
B. 107
C. 108
D. 109
E. None of these

Sol. 46 - 43 = 3
     54 - 46 = 8
     67 - 54 = 13
     85 - 67 = 18

Thus, 85 + 23 = 108
