A. 20000
B. 25000
C. 26000
D. 24000
E. None of these
Sol. Assume Ramesh got x rupees.
He gave x/2 - 2000 to Suresh.
And (2/3)*( x/2 + 2000 ) + 1000 to Mahesh.
x/2 - 2000 = x/3 + 7000/3
x = 26000.
7. The cost price of goods with a bankrupt is Rs. 25500 and if the goods had realised in their full value, his creditiors would have received 85 paise in the rupee. But 2/5 of the goods were sold at 17% and the remainder at 22% below their cost price. How many paise in a rupee was received by the creditors?
A. 72 paise
B. 68 paise
C. 55 paise
D. 52 paise
E. None of these
Sol. Total debt = 25500 × 100/85 = Rs.30000
Money received by selling the goods = 25500(2/5 × 83/100 + 3/5 × 78/100)
= 25500/500 (166 + 234)
= 51×400 = Rs.20400
Therefore, money received by the creditors for a rupee = Rs.(20400/30000)=Rs.0.68=68 paise
Hence, the creditor received 68 paise in a rupee.
8. Two trains start at the same time from A and B and proceed towards each other at 80 km/hr and 95 km/hr respectively, when the trains meet, it is found that one has travelled 180 km more than the other. Find the distance between A and B.
A. 210 km
B. 2100 km
C. 2000 km
D. 2010 km
E. None of the above.
Sol. The difference between the distance travelled by A and B after 1 hour = 95 – 80 = 15 km.
Time taken by the trains to meet each other =180/15 = 12 hr.
Total distance travelled by both trains in 1 hour = 80 + 95 = 175 km.
Total distance between A and B = 175 × 12 = 2100 km
9. A train travels at the rate of 50 km/hr without stoppages and it travels at 40 km/hr with stoppages. How many minutes does the train stop on an average per hour?
A. 6 min
B. 12 min
C. 18 min
D. 14 min
E. None of the above
Sol. Train stop for a time which is equal to time taken to travel a distance of 10 km with a speed of 50 km/hr.
because in an hour train travels 10 km less.
Time =10/50×60 = 12 min.

A. 22 km
B. 20 km
C. 18 km
D. 16 km
E. None of the above
Sol. S1 = 16 km/hr
S2 = 20 km/hr
S_1/S_2 =4/5
T_1/T_2 =5/4
Time difference = 15 min
T_1=5×15=75 min
T_2=4×15=60 min
Distance = 1 × 20 = 20 km.
