RBI Assistant Prelims 2016-17 (Important Questions-7)

1. X and Y start simultaneously from A towards B 60 km apart. X's speed is 4 km/hr less than Y's speed. Y after reaching turns back and meet X  12 km from B. Find X's speed ?

A. 8
B. 6
C. 5
D. 9
E. 10

Sol. X's speed = x
     Y's speed = (x+4)

According to the question,
Time taken by X to go (60-12) = 48 km is equal to time taken by Y to go (60+12) = 72km.

Thus, 48/x = 72/(x+4)

Solving, x = 8km/hr.

2. P invested 10% more than Q, Q invested 10% less than R. If the total investment of all 3 is Rs 5780, find the investment of R ?

A. 2000
B. 4000
C. 5000
D. 8000
E. None of these

Sol. Let P's investment be 'x'

Q's investment = 100x/110
R's investment = (10x/11)*(100/90) = 100x/90

According to the question,
x + 10x/11 + 100x/99 = 5780
Solving, x = 1980.
Thus, R's investment = (100*1980)/99 = Rs 2000

3. If the measure of angles of an isosceles triangle are in the ratio 1:4, then what is the degree measure of the largest angle, if its not a base angle ?

A. 90
B. 150
C. 120
D. 110
E. None of these

Sol. Lets assume angles to be, x, x and 4x
Thus, x+x+4x = 180
Solving, x = 30
Therefore, the largest angle = 4*30 = 120.

4. The difference between S.I. and C.I. on a certain sum of money for 2 year at 5% is Rs 100. Find the sum ?

A. 40,000
B. 30,000
C. 20,000
D. 35,000
E. None of these

Sol. C.I. = P(1 + 5/100)^2 = P*0.1025
     S.I. = P*5*2/100 = 0.1*P

0.1025P - 0.1P = 100
Solving, P = Rs 40,000.

5. Perimeter of rectangle is 160m and the difference between its two adjacent sides is 48m. The side of a square, having the same area as that of rectangle, is:

A. 32
B. 16
C. 8
D. 6
E. None of these

Sol. 2(l+b) = 160
and  l - b = 48

Solving, l = 64
         b = 16

Thus, 64*16 = a^2  (where 'a' is the side of the square)
Solving, a = 32m.

Directions(6-10): What should come in place of (_) in the following series:

6. 33, 39, 56, 85, 127, _

A. 183
B. 185
C. 180
D. 179
E. None of these

Sol. 39 - 33 = 6
     56 - 39 = 17
     85 - 56 = 29
    127 - 85 = 42

     17 - 6 = 11
     29 - 17= 12
     42 - 29= 13
     42 + 14 = 56

Thus, 127 + 56 = 183.

7. 7, 9, 21, 67, 273, _

A. 1370
B. 1278
C. 1371
D. 1387
E. None of these

Sol. 7*1 + 2 = 9
     9*2 + 3 = 21
    21*3 + 4 = 67
    67*4 + 5 = 273
   273*5 + 6 = 1371.

8. 13, 27, 53, 107, 213, _

A. 420
B. 427
C. 437
D. 447
E. None of these

Sol. 13*2 + 1 = 27
     27*2 - 1 = 53
     53*2 + 1 = 107
    107*2 - 1 = 213
    213*2 + 1 = 427

9. 35,  91, 189, 341, 559, _

A. 855
B. 860
C. 865
D. 875
E. None of these

Sol. 8 + 27 = 35
    27 + 64 = 91
    64 + 125= 189
   125 + 216= 341
   216 + 343= 559
   343 + 512= 855

10. 4, 3, 5, 2, 6, _

A. 1
B. 2
C. 0
D. 4
E. None of these

Sol. 4 - 1 = 3
       3 + 2 = 5
       5 - 3 = 2
       2 + 4 = 6

       6 - 5 = 1
